The historic landscape of the Lowcountry is shaped by the presence of plantations. This exhibition examines area plantations from colonial times to the 21st century. Visitors can choose to respond to the exhibition through the response wall with prompt questions such as “How do plantations impact today’s society?” and ” What does the word ‘plantation’ mean to you?”. Here are some of the comments:
“[Plantations are] a part of America’s history not to be denied or celebrated; factual history. Talk, learn, forgive, don’t ever forget.”
“[Plantations] still evoke emotional feelings at the sight of word or place.”
