Moderated by Imelda Golden, Web Content/Media Specialist with Hardeeville, this discussion connects to the VeMe exhibition and explores the multifaceted experiences and stories of Latinx panelists who call this region home.

Latinx people are known for their vibrant cultures, rich histories, and determination. The Lowcountry is known for its haunting beauty and delightful delicacies. It is such a unique place that it has it’s own culture. What happens when you are trying to balance two or more cultures? In this discussion, the panelists will answer how they are navigating life in the lowcountry while remaining authentic and true to their Latinx roots. They will talk about their identities as Latinx members living in the lowcountry, moments of feeling unseen, and what it means to take the spotlight back. Join us for this insightful and timely conversation.

Author and US Veteran McKendree Long talks about some of the guns used in the Civil War including Sharps, Spencer, Burnside, Colt and Smith & Wesson. Attendees will also be able to handle some of the models. Long will also speak about his three novels in The Superstition Gun Trilogy. Books will be available for purchase.

Join us for an exclusive indigo dyeing workshop and tutorial with artists Leanne Coulter and Rhonda Davis, owners of the Daufuskie Blues Art Gallery. Guests will have the opportunity to hand dye a cotton silk scarf in a natural indigo vat, while learning about the properties and various techniques used in the indigo craft.  Space is limited, so reserve your spot today!

Join the Daufuskie Diva herself for a special cooking demonstration and tutorial! Learn how to capture the taste of the Lowcountry as author and chef Sallie Ann Robinson. Inspired by the flavors of her home, she shows you how to prepare one of her dishes, followed by a tasting and book signing. Cookbooks will be available for purchase.

Celebrity chef, television personality, and authority of Gullah tradition, Sallie Ann Robinson is a sixth-generation native of Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, renowned for her culinary expertise, entertaining presentations, and knowledge of the Southeastern United States Gullah culture.

Dr. Fritz Hamer, Curator of History and Archivist for the SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, will talk about how South Carolinians supported the war efforts during World War I.
