Join the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage for “Revolutionary War Stories in South Carolina,” presented by Indigenous policy consultant, educator, and advocate Joshua Shumak as part of our Freedom’s Many Fronts Speaker Series.

In this presentation, Shumak will uncover the often-overlooked stories of Native American involvement during the American Revolution in South Carolina. He will examine the important roles Native communities played in the conflict and how their actions shaped the Revolutionary War in the state.

Joshua Shumak is a nationally recognized advocate and consultant whose work centers on Indigenous communities. He has worked with tribal nations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to advance Native American education, strengthen cultural preservation efforts, and support Indigenous communities through policy and collaboration.
